Sidestage Tumblr

The official Tumblr for the bi-monthly online indie music zine, sidestage (sidestagezine.com). This Tumblr is for all the stuff we can't fit in the zine proper - songs, videos, extra pictures, and snippets from forthcoming issues.

Audio, image and video killed the magazine star.

Contributors: Natasha, Kate.
Idea developed with Conor.

If we've posted something you'd rather we didn't, get in contact with us and we'll take it down. We're easy like that.

After considerable uni-induced delay, Natasha and I are proud to announce that Issue 004 of Sidestage Zine is finally up! You can view it (and back issues) either in .pdf or in flash here on our website.

Now with a self-induced format change of sorts!

Dappled Cities - “The Price”

I’ve been enjoying Dappled’s new single for a little while now, but I just saw the video for it and now love the song even more.

The Dead Weather - ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’

One of my favourites off this supergroup’s new album, Horehound, and it now comes hand-in-hand with a seriously excellent video featuring Alison ‘VV’ Mosshart and Jack White duking it out.

“To musicians who believe that their music is being pirated, Anderson is blunt. They should stop complaining, and capitalize on the added exposure that piracy provides by making money through touring, merchandise sales, and “yes, the sale of some of [their] music to people who still want CDs or prefer to buy their music online.”

Red Riders - ‘Slide In Next To Me’

Natasha and I go way back with these guys - in, uh, various ways. They were one of the only Australian bands we supported really solidly in our younger days / when we were working on our previous magazine, Arcady.

As much as it pains us to say so, since the band lost co-frontman Adrian, things just haven’t been the same. But regardless! Today in JMag, I read about one girl who nominated ‘Slide In Next To Me’ as one of the sexiest songs ever, namely for its bassline. Natasha and I have long maintained this very position, and we think you should, too. You’ll see why.

How an Indie Musician can make $19,000 in 10 hours using Twitter

Alright. This is amazing. Could Amanda Palmer be any more of a badass? No.

But I must say that I believe her Twitter success goes beyond simply using the service. It’s because (a) She is Amanda Palmer (b) she treats her fans like friends (c) Her goal with Twitter is not to make money.

I’m afraid people will read this article and think they should jump on the Twitter bandwagon so they can score some cash. That’s not what its about. It’s about connecting with people. You might make money, but first you have earn the support of your followers.

That said, I don’t think you have to be famous. You just have to be real. I made $2000 in 10 hours, $4000 in 24… and I am so very far from famous.

It’s all about believing in eachother! I’m now having a blast making this album thanks to the help I got on Twitter and Tumblr. You guys are the best.
